Molybdenum (Mo) is a gray metal and has a very high melting point. It is found in various oxidation states in minerals but does not occur naturally as a free metal.
It is often alloyed with other compounds to improve corrosion resistance and strength at high temperatures. Consequently, molybdenum is frequently used for making steel alloys, high strength alloys, and superalloys.
Molybdenum Metal Powder is usually prepared with ammonium paramolybdate or calcined MoO3 as the raw material and reduced with hydrogen.
A dark gray or black lustrous powder, molybdenum was confused with graphite and lead ore before being recognized as a new element.
The metal, silvery-white, is very hard but is softer and more ductile than tungsten. Molybdenum has a high melting point, good
resistance to corrosion, excellent wear, and abrasion resistance, good electrical and thermal conducting properties. It is
valuable for alloying, as it improves harden-ability and toughness of quenched and tempered steels.

Automobile spraying: The melting point of molybdenum is as high as 2620 ºC, and it has good high temperature performance and corrosion resistance. Molybdenum has strong bonding force with steel, so it is the main thermal spray material in the production of automobile parts. Automobile parts are generally sprayed with molybdenum wire high-speed flame spraying. The gas mixing injection device of the spray gun produces high-temperature gas combustion. The specially designed combustion chamber and gas injection mixing chamber enable the molybdenum wire to be sprayed on the surface of the workpiece at a very high speed before it is completely melted. The density of sprayed molybdenum can reach more than 99%, and the bonding strength is close to 10 kg/mm2. This process can effectively improve the wear resistance of the worn surface and also provides a porous surface that can be impregnated with lubricating oil.
