Small hexagonal crystals of light green to dark green chromium trioxide. When hot, it turns brown, but still turns green when cold. The crystal is extremely hard. Extremely stable, even when hydrogen is introduced under red heat, there is no change. Soluble in heated potassium bromate solution, slightly soluble in acids and bases, almost insoluble in water, ethanol, and acetone.
Mainly used in special steel smelting tapping ports, skateboard ports, and large incinerators, it can be used for coloring ceramics and enamel, coloring rubber, preparing high-temperature resistant coatings, art pigments, and ink for printing paper currency and securities. Chromium oxide green has a color similar to chlorophyll in plants and can be used as camouflage paint, making it difficult to distinguish in infrared photography. It is also widely used in metallurgy, making refractory materials, and grinding powders. It can also be used as an organic synthesis catalyst and is an advanced green pigment.
